Urban design is a process rather than a product. It connects disciplines, integrating economic, engineering, environmental and social requirements to design and deliver high quality places that people want to be a part of.

Beca’s urban design team have backgrounds in planning, architecture and landscape urbanism, and experience gained across New Zealand and internationally. We are a design driven, environmentally responsible and people-focused team – and we ‘speak engineer’.

Our projects range from local area improvements to large, complex infrastructure. We have particular strengths in balancing land use, built form and transport requirements, and we work through the whole project life cycle from concept to delivery.

Our design guidance includes urban and landscape design frameworks and urban revitalisation design strategies. We are also well established in the review and assessment space, with experience on design panels and in District Plan review, policy drafting and Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design.
